Susanna’s Profile from CMP
Susanna Penning is a first-generation Canadian born to immigrant Dutch parents who are dairy farmers. She says she takes her strong will, humour and directness from them. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Carleton University and spent 18 years with Scotiabank.
In 2006, the single mother experienced her six-year-old daughter Taylor’s unexpected death, so she left the bank to strike a better work-life balance and be more present for her then four-year-old daughter Madison. Mortgage brokering seemed a good fit at this stage of her life. Nobody supported her decision and people thought she was crazy to leave a stable salaried job with benefits. Nevertheless, she set out to prove to everyone and herself that she could succeed in this new career path. She joined RMA, then Oriana Financial, and eventually landed with The Mortgage Advisors (TMA) in 2016. At TMA, she has gradually built a team of six members under the YourMortgageSpecialist.ca brand. This boutique division within TMA strives to be the preferred and most trusted mortgage agent team in Ottawa. It is a relationship- and service-based firm that provides each client with unique and individual service, which cannot be found elsewhere.
For 12 years now, Susanna has volunteered at The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario every Friday afternoon. She describes herself as a mother of one, stepmother of three, and a dog mom of two. Her downtime is spent in her lakeside house entertaining, kayaking on the lake, or reading a good book on the dock. She is grateful to be surrounded by her loving family and friends.
